Sneyd Striders Running Club

💚 Mental Health Champions at Sneyd Striders
We’re proud to be part of a programme that strengthens our sense of togetherness while continuing to build a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive club for everyone.
Launched in 2016 by England Athletics in partnership with Mind, this initiative creates a network of Mental Health Champions within running groups and affiliated clubs across England. Its aim is simple but powerful: to encourage people experiencing mental health challenges to start, return to, or continue running, using physical activity as a positive tool for improving wellbeing.
As Mental Health Champions, we are here to support both new and existing members, helping to raise awareness and promote understanding around mental health within our club.
🗣️ #RunAndTalk
A key part of the programme is the #RunAndTalk campaign, which focuses on improving mental wellbeing through running by:
-
Encouraging open conversations about mental health
-
Sharing experiences and helping to reduce stigma
-
Raising awareness of mental health challenges
-
Supporting individuals to start, return to, or continue running

📊 Why It Matters
With 1 in 4 people in the UK experiencing a mental health problem each year, this programme is more important than ever. It highlights the need for supportive communities where people feel safe, understood, and encouraged.
🏃♀️ Supporting Each Other
As runners, we understand the positive impact physical activity can have on both body and mind. However, we also recognise that mental health challenges can sometimes make it difficult to take that first step.
That’s where our club community comes in.
At Sneyd Striders, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for everyone. Sometimes, simply knowing that someone is there to listen and understands what you’re going through can make all the difference.

🤝 Our Commitment
As Mental Health Champions, our goal is to ensure that every member feels:
-
Supported
-
Valued
-
Included
-
Encouraged
We hope to help create a positive space where everyone can enjoy running and feel part of something bigger.
